Edelbrock Extreme Shock
Edelbrock Extreme Shock
AS SEEN IN 4X4 AUSTRALIA February 2006, now Australia's number one shockabsorber.

ABT 4x4 is excited to anounce we are distributors of Edelbrock's IAS 4x4 performance shocks.

This shock has a patent design piston that will revolutionise performance shock absorber for the future. These shocks are more efficient and effective than any other shocks in the same price range.

They react instanteously and run 60% cooler than similar De Carbon design monotubes. This efficiency makes them sustain demanding conditons for longer with superior performance.

Available for:
- Jeeps, 2-6in for XJ, TJ, YJ and WJ;
- F-Trucks 2-6in;
- Patrols 75mm and 120mm, (optional bearing)
- Landcruisers 75mm, 100mm and 140mm;
- Some Hiuxes, Navaras & Mazdas.

For Patrol lifts over 50mm lift we recommend using a high misalignment bearing on the shaft end of the shock over the standard 19mm/OD bush. We recommend this because as the diff rotates in its arch under the vechicle the standard bush can not handle the travel. It starts to bind which creates a buckling force that will try to bend the shock and cause the seals to fail and resulting in shock failure. Our bearing will overcome this shortfall enabling the shock to get full travel without damaging the shock. The bearing will be an additional $75 which will ensure the shocks longevity.

Below is a summary to explain what shocks do and what you should be looking for in a shock. This will assist in explaining why Edelbrocks are a quality and superior performing shock. This information has been backed up buy testing performed by 4x4 Austraila.

Edelbrock IAS Shock Absorbers

ABT 4x4 Products Pty Ltd is proud to announce our appointment as distributors for the renowned Edelbrock 4x4 shock absorber range.

Edelbrock shocks have a unique patented valve system known as the Inertia Active System (IAS). Their Shock range has been designed and tuned to suit each particular Australian models. In addition if customers want to comtomise their Edelbrock shocks to meet specific valving, length or design requirements this can be done.

The Edelbrock IAS piston have been put in shocks for the likes of Craig Lownes, Greg Carr & Peter Brock. Peter Brock runs them on his Targa Monaro and his team brock driver training cars. This product meets the high standards he call for and he has endorsed the product. Peter says it works.

Detailed below is some information about shock absorbers and points to consider when purchasing shocks to ensure you obtain the best performance out of your 4x4. We recommend you take the time to visit the Edelbrock shock website.

Basic Shock Information:

A shock basically helps keep a vehicles suspension under control in order maintain handling & traction:
 When doing this shocks oscillate up (compression) and down (rebound) with road conditions ie bumps & potholes,
 Compression & rebound is controlled by the shocks piston moving internally through the oil in the cylinder,
 This constant oscillation creates heat and eventually shock fade therefore the quicker a shock can dissipate heat and react to road conditions the better the vehicles performance.

Therefore:
 Superior designed shocks do this more effectively and efficiently

Monotube advantages:

 They have an internal floating piston to divide the nitrogen from the oil, this helps prevent the piston from creating a foaming mixture of nitrogen and oil inside the shock cylinder and therefore creating shock fade (failure),
 They dissipate heat more efficiently because the cylinder or shock body is the component that contains the oil, this allows the air to come into direct contact with where the heat is being dissipated and provide superior cooling. This is unlike twintubes where the pressure tube, where the friction and heat is generated is insulated by an outer tubes diminishing heat dissipation. This unique ability of the monotube enables the shock to sustain demanding conditions for longer;
 They have larger more efficient pistons ensuring that they react faster & more effectively to road conditions. Therefore the vehicle will remain stable, maintain traction and performance.
 Through valving we can control the shock absorbers characteristic under certain conditions ie how the way in which the shock behaves at different shaft/piston velocity (speed the piston moves through the shock cylinder). For example the valving can be tuned to be very stiff in compression at slow shaft/piston velocity (ie to stop body roll) or soft at fast shaft/piston velocity (efficiently absorb speed bump at 60kph).
 95% of the worlds race cars, rally cars & offroad racers run monotube design shocks which is no coincidence

Ok now we know that if you want better performance from a shock your best bet is to run monotube shockabsorbers. There a several top mass produced monotube shocks available for 4x4s. And for the last 40 years every company has been trying to copy and produce their own variant of the Decarbon deflective piston design.
Well at least until the Ricor IAS piston design came out and was patented several years ago. This new piston is called Inertia Active System (IAS) and has set the standard for shockabsorber design and performance for the next 20 years. This design is now owned and run in Edelbrock performance monotube shockabsorbers.

Without detailed description, this new piston design enables the shock to be more responsive than other mass produced piston on the market. It has no competitors because there is no shock & piston combination in same price range that is as efficient, effective or has the ability to control heat and sustain performance.

The IAS design main advantage occurs under rebound. Normally the piston would be pushed/forced through the oil by the action of the main vehicle spring returning to its normal height after compression. This rebound motion creates heat as the oil squeezes through the holes and valves on the piston.
 However with the IAS piston design under the same conditions, the piston does what Edelbrock call a full bleed. This in basic terms means the piston and shaft will free fall faster than a standard monotube or twintube and with limited force & friction from the oil passing through the piston. This free fall in addition to being quick in response it also reduces heat generation up to 60%.
 So what does this mean for your 4x4, well you get superior performance & traction than any other shock available on the market in the same price range and in many circumstance better than other more expensive products.
 Eg Imagine you are traveling down a dirt track and suddenly your front wheel drops into a pothole, normally not only does the front wheel fall into the pothole but the chassis drops down too!!! Therefore transferring this bump through the vehicle and the steering and as such makes the vehicle unstable. However in this circumstance the IAS shock reacts instantaneously only letting the spring push the wheel into the pothole while the chassis remains at ride height with full handling and stability. The bigger the hole or obstacle the greater the performance effect the IAS shock will provide.

Passenger Car Owners-
Greatly Improves Handling Without Sacrificing the Ride

Manufactured by Edelbrock in the U.S.A. using State-of-the Art Technology

Edelbrock's Performer IAS&#reg; shocks feature Ricor's patented Inertia Active System (IAS). This exclusive design switches instantly between a soft and a firm circuit for superior handling and a smooth ride. There is no other shock that can deliver this kind of performance. Why? Because no other shock has the patented inertia valve.
Until now, if you wanted to eliminate chassis roll around turns and under hard braking, yet have a comfortable ride you couldn't do it. No shock absorber in existence could do both without some compromise in either handling or comfort. When you improved the handling with stiffer shocks, the ride became rough and uncomfortable. When you improved the ride with softer shocks, the handling became sloppy. That is, until now... The revolutionary Edelbrock Performer IAS shock absorbers deliver excellent handling and a comfortable ride. The patented Ricor&#reg; Inertia Active System eliminates the compromise inherent in other designs for a shock that is soft on rough roads and firm on smooth roads. This keeps the tires on the ground and the chassis stable. You may have heard these claims before, but now it's for real. With Edelbrock, you get "The Best of Both Worlds"... superior handling and maximum comfort!
We're so sure about the performance of our shocks, you get a 30-day money back guarantee and a limited lifetime warranty. You'll be amazed how well your sport utility, truck or car will handle.
