Spidertrax Chromoly Sierra Front Axles
Chromoly Front Axles

"I could wheel the lines I wanted without worrying about putting too much stress on the equipment when the wheels were turned. Great going Spidertrax!"Bill Johnston, iZook.com

"During the testing, we did enough bouncing and hopping that, from previous experience we know, would normally snap a stock axle into a gozillion pieces. These axles performed flawlessly and shown no damage in the splines or in the birfield cup upon post-flogging inspection." Eric Bewley, Zukiworld.com

Sick of breaking Samurai front axle shafts? The all new RCV 26 Spline Chromoly Front Axle Shafts by Spidertrax put an end to an over 2 decade old problem!

Spidertrax started ground up and designed an all new axle shaft utilizing the latest axle shaft technologies we have perfected in competition rock crawling and racing. Key advantages of our design are:

All components are made from 4340 chromoly heat treated material with all heat treatment done after machining, not before.

Inner axle shafts are larger in diameter, upgraded from 22 spline to 26 spline.

Inner axle shafts are fully machined or "necked down". This process is more expensive than simply making a shaft one diameter, but the extra cost is well worth it. By properly machining down the axle shaft, you end up unloading the axle shaft splines and are able to distribute the entire load throughout the shaft. Otherwise, the splines would take the brunt of the load and become the weak link.

Front oil sealing surfaces are kept to OEM specification. This is only possible with an inner axle shaft that is fully machined.

Patented birfield cage design adds vital strength during full turn high torque loads (US Pat # 7,025,684).

Birfield and inner axle shafts come fully greased and assembled just like OEM. There is good reason to do this too besides the obvious "it makes life easier". When a birfield joint is brand new it is critical that all bearing surfaces are properly greased and greasing a birfield joint is most effectively done prior to installing the axle shafts. Therefore, all birfields are greased prior to the installation of the inner axle shafts and then the inner axle shafts are installed and locked in place.

All parts come with a "Limited Lifetime Warranty". You break your first part, Spidertrax will replace it for you hassle free. After your first warranty claim, all parts are covered for life from defects in material and workmanship.

Every part of this kit, from design to manufacturing, is proudly done in the United States of America. Don't be fooled by cheap import imitations selling inferior parts for pennies on the dollar. Save yourself the trouble and buy American.

Pre-Assembled & Pre-Greased
Necked Down 26 Spline

Although the overall design of this product is the property of Spidertrax, all manufacturing is done by U.S. based RCV Performance. We take great pride in manufacturing all of our own parts in-house, but RCV Performance was able to offer critical support to make this a great product. First, the patented cage design mentioned above is their property and the added strength gained from using this patent is highly worth it. Second, on a production level, RCV Performance is set up far better than Spidertrax for manufacturing the birfield joint itself. Keeping in mind Spidertrax wanted to design a great product, both made in the U.S and priced right, we chose this partnership to meet these goals.

Please note, to install these front axle shafts into your Samurai, you will need to run 26 spline side gears in your front differential. This can be done by installing OEM rear side gears into the front or by purchasing a locker that already includes 26 spline side gears (see the 1530 Lockright Locker for example).

Spidertrax Spider 9 Ultimate 60 Full Steer Diff
Although normally sold in individual parts by Spidertrax, we are selling this as a Full Front parts kit. Ok what you will get, unit bearings, Willwood brakes, custom rotors, axle seals, custom 50 degree knuckles, custom inner C, alluminium hat and Spider 9 housing. You will need to get axles, diff centre and u-joints to complete all the parts for the diffs.

Note there is not doubting the sucess of these diff as they are the choice off all the champion rockcrawlers in the US such as Jesse Haines, winner of the W.E.ROCK Eastern U.S. Nationals in Rausch Creek, PA. On day two of this event, Jesse proves 50° of steering, possible with Spidertrax Ultimate 60 Knuckles, can make a big difference in the end.

There is simply no knuckle on the market as innovative as the upcoming Spidertrax Ultimate 60 Knuckle. Spidertrax have prototyped two versions of this knuckle for sevral years now. Although both worked well in our field testing, the second prototyped version (V2) has received our stamp of approval and have made its way into final production . The V2 knuckle design works with Spidertrax 1 Ton Unit Bearings. Some key advantages of the V2 design are:

Light Weight - This knuckle blow away the competition when it comes to weight. Our complete knuckle set (inner & outer for both sides) sits at 57 lbs., roughly 2.5 times less weight then OEM style 60s! Don't confuse weight for strength either. With over 3 years of competition testing, these knuckles are every bit as strong as OEM and other aftermarket 60 knuckles.

Compact Design - This knuckle hugs the u-joint tighter then any OEM or aftermarket design currently on the market. This allows for a more compact setup while achieving an impressive 50° of steering angle.

Serviceability - The use of a spherical ball & race combo eliminates the bulk and weakness of standard ball joint setups and provides a much simpler package then kingpins. These spherical setups are designed specifically for axial loading (8000 lbs. ea. / 16,000 lbs. per knuckle!) and can handle plenty of punishment. Plus the use of two 3/4" shoulder bolts per knuckle allows for easy assembly and disassembly.

Cost - Laser cut, high precision CNC & formed steel eliminates the common high price tag on casted knuckles. Estimated target price is under $US1000 for a complete set of inner and outer knuckles with spherical ends and hardware (both sides)!

Tom Woods U Joint
"Super-Flex" universal joint is
Now available in 1410 series!

Until now, if you needed to run a higher angle in your drive shaft than conventional parts would allow, the only choice was to use Toyota mini-truck components. These were basic light weight parts designed for 1/4 & 1/2 ton vehicles and would not stand up to the demands of to days high horsepower rock crawlers.

Tom Wood’s Custom Drive Shafts Inc. is pleased to announce and introduce our new and exclusive “Super-Flex”TM Universal Joint in both 1310 and 1350 series. Both joint sizes are considerably stronger than the Toyota joint and do not require any “special” flanges for the transfer case or differential.

The unique design of off-set trunnions sets the mating yokes further apart than a more conventional joint. This allows for 10 degrees more flexibility than would be otherwise obtainable. While 10 degrees may not sound like a lot, with a 30" drive shaft, this will allow more than 5" of additional droop at your axle prior to binding of the universal joint. Our testing shows that installing this universal joint into standard yokes, the drive shaft will flex to 40 degrees. With a little grind work on the yokes the drive shaft will flex to 45 degrees.

Real world testing at the recent Supercrawl in Salt Lake City has proven this universal joint does what is supposed to do and is up the most demanding challenges. And of course it carries our famous “Gold Seal”TM warranty.

Priced at only $145.00 for 1350 U Joint, it is the most cost effective and best solution for your high angle applications.

The "Super-Flex" universal joint was not designed to be a "cure all", but rather specifically to solve a binding problem that one may incur under situations such as full axle droop and spring wrap. Situations like a front drive shaft, where you have a lot of lift and have also installed buggy springs or revolver shackles in conjunction with your shackle reversal.
We have never made any secret of the fact that this joint does cause some vibration problems. (In fact we will not even sell it unless the customer is aware of its limitations). This is due to the introduction of the 3rd plane of operation, which will cause the drive shaft to run eccentric. The amount of eccentricity is a function of how steep the drive shaft runs to begin with.

Through a zero degree angle there is no eccentricity and as the angle increases the amount of eccentricity will increase. The amount of vibration you will experience will be factors of the angle and the weight of the drive shaft. In theory if your drive shaft weighed nothing there would be no vibration forces as a result of running the drive shaft running eccentric.

As a simple test, we've installed these universal joints in the rear drive shaft for our (pretty much stock) Grand Cherokee. Admittedly the universal joint angles are minimal (less than 3 degrees), We fully expected that at some point, we would find the vibrations to be unacceptable our amazement we didn't experience anything annoying until we reached a speed of about 72-73 MPH. I believe this would be about 2300 RPM on the drive shaft. This drive shaft was also about 2X heavier than stock as it was one we made with a 2" X .120" wall tube.

Of course if you do not have good drive shaft geometry your drive shaft it will vibrate anyway. This would be a torsional vibration or the building and releasing of torque 2 times per revolution on the drive shaft. These types of vibrations may have a tendency to feel less severe than a radial vibration or imbalance. However we believe that they are actually harder on the attaching gears than the radial vibrations (assuming speed isn't excessive) this is because these torsional forces cannot be controlled by the speed of the vehicle and effectively occur 2 times per revolution of the drive shaft regardless of the vehicle speed and their strengths can only be controlled by load of the vehicle. Under normal load situations the net forces resulting from the torsional loads would actually be greater than the radial forces of a slow spinning shaft with the "Super-Flex" universal joint.

Again the "Super-Flex" universal joint is not claimed to be a "cure all". Ultimately to utilize the greatest flexibility of your suspension and have the smoothest drive shaft possible, our recommendation would be to:

Install a custom high pinion differential with the pinion positioned properly for a CV drive shaft.
Utilize a CV drive shaft with the grinding and machining necessary for maximum flexibility.
Use a Toyota slip yoke, spline stub and flange at the differential end.
3a. The Toyota joint assembly would allow for a little more than 40 degrees prior to binding. It is however our opinion that using the Toyota joint assembly would be a compromise in strength as the Toyota joint is smaller than the stock 1310 series, the size and location of the grease fitting and the substantially thinner central body.

Alternatively, if this is not the kind of money and effort you want to spend and the drive shaft is not going to be turning at high speeds (locking hubs or other disconnect), I think the "Super-flex" universal joint is a very good solution. Certainly it is the simplest and most cost effective solution to a binding drive shaft problem in many situations.
